El proyecto se ubica dentro del Campus central de la Universidad Católica del Norte, en el sector sur de Antofagasta. Se emplaza en una esquina de la parte alta del Campus, enfrentando al cerro de La Virgen, que es un emblema de la Universidad por cuanto configura un lugar fundacional de ella.
Encargo
El proyecto busca dar cabida dentro de la Universidad, a un programa de espacio de trabajo colaborativo, el cual requiere espacios de conexión con el entorno y entre los mismos estudiantes, y que estimule este mismo trabajo asociativo y creativo.
Propuesta
Se propone un edificio en dos niveles, desarrollando el programa propiamente tal en la parte superior, de manera de liberar el espacio del primer piso, como un espacio público para las actividades del edificio como de la universidad en general, con lo cual no solo se libera y desahoga el espacio público, sino que también lo conecta directamente con el cerro La Virgen. Del mismo modo el segundo nivel, donde se realizan las actividades del programa educativo también se conecta con el cerro La virgen, a través de amplios ventanales de orientación oriente, como también con la planta baja pública mediante un medido lucernario.
Por otra parte, el sistema constructivo propone la utilización de un antiguo sistema desarrollado por la Universidad en los antiguos pabellones, donde recurre a elementos diagonalizados de acero como base fundamental de su estructura. De esta forma, se reconoce y pone en valor un sistema constructivo propio del repertorio del campus, y lo pone al servicio de un nuevo edificio, que requiere conformar una unidad estructural que genere una planta publica lo más libre posible, para la realización de diversas actividades propias del que hacer universitario.
El edificio por tanto, construye un espacio intermedio de alta calidad medioambiental contribuyendo a la conformación de un espacio semi exterior sombreado y ventilado, capaz de cobijar las más diversas actividades de permanencia dentro del campus.
Este sistema constructivo permitirá también la transformación, desarme y traslado de la misma, dado su sistema de construcción de tipo reversible.
The project is located within the Central Campus of the Universidad Católica del Norte, in the southern sector of Antofagasta. It is located in a corner of the upper part of the Campus, facing the hill of La Virgen, which is an emblem of the University because it forms a foundational place of it.
Charge

The project seeks to accommodate within the University, a collaborative workspace program, which requires spaces of connection with the environment and among the students themselves, and which stimulates this same associative and creative work.

Proposal
​
A building is proposed in two levels, developing the program itself in the upper part, in order to free the space of the first floor, as a public space for the activities of the building as well as the university in general, with which not only liberates and relieves the public space but also connects it directly with the hill of La Virgen. In the same way, the second level, where the activities of the educational program are carried out, also connects with the hill La virgen, through large windows of east orientation, as well as with the ground floor published by a measured skylight.
On the other hand, the constructive system proposes the use of an old system developed by the University in the old pavilions, where it uses diagonalized steel elements as the fundamental basis of its structure. In this way, a constructive system typical of the repertoire of the campus is recognized and valued, and puts it at the service of a new building, which requires forming a structural unit that generates a public plant as free as possible, for the realization of various own activities to do university.
The building therefore builds an intermediate space of high environmental quality contributing to the conformation of a semi-shaded and ventilated exterior space, capable of sheltering the most diverse activities of permanence within the campus.
This construction system will also allow the transformation, disarmament and transfer of the same, given its reversible type construction system.
